Where to Watch the Sunset in Porto: My Favorite Spots

Porto is one of those cities where sunsets feel different every day. The light reflects off the river, the ocean moves endlessly, and the whole city slowly turns golden. If you’re looking for the best sunset spots in Porto, here are two places I personally love — both with completely different moods, but equally unforgettable.

1. Farol de Felgueiras (Foz do Douro)

If you want to feel the raw energy of the ocean, this is one of the best places to watch the sunset in Porto.

The lighthouse at Foz do Douro stands right where the river meets the Atlantic, and during sunset the whole place becomes almost cinematic. Waves crash against the rocks, the light gets softer, and everything feels a little surreal.

There’s a long promenade perfect for walking, a small park nearby, and plenty of restaurants around — making it easy to turn your sunset into a full evening experience.

If you’re planning to stay for dinner, I recommend Lapa Lapa — a cozy spot with great seafood and a relaxed atmosphere. It’s quite popular, so it’s better to book in advance.

2. Jardim do Morro

For a completely different perspective, head to Jardim do Morro.

Located on the Vila Nova de Gaia side, this spot offers one of the most iconic sunset views in Porto — overlooking the Dom Luís I Bridge, the river, and the old city.

As the sun goes down, the sky turns warm and golden, boats move slowly along the Douro, and the city lights begin to appear. Street musicians often play here, adding to the atmosphere and making the whole experience feel alive.

It’s not just a viewpoint — it’s a moment where you really feel the spirit of Porto.

Enjoy your time in Porto — and its beautiful sunsets.
